White House Press Secretary: Trump Has No Plans to Stop Russia Investigations

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer held his first full press briefing on Monday, giving reporters a rundown on what President Donald Trump is up to, and tackling questions on a wide variety of issues, both foreign and domestic.

Last week, news broke that multiple government agencies were investigating whether Russia had worked with Trump’s campaign. Over the weekend, reports stated that Trump’s pick for National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn, was investigated due to contacts he has had with Russia. At the press briefing, a reporter asked Spicer if President Trump has spoken to the intelligence agencies involved in the investigation of Russian ties, and whether Trump would allow Russia-related investigations to continue.

Spicer said that as far as he knew, there were no plans to shut down any investigation. “I don’t know that he has spoken to anyone specifically about that,” he said, adding, “he has not made any indication that he would stop an investigation of any sort.”

He also refuted one aspect of the Flynn story. Reports indicated that General Flynn had made “repeated contacts” to a Russian ambassador, but Spicer said it was only one call that covered multiple subjects, including a conference in Syria to discuss ISIS, and setting up a future talk between Trump and Vladimir Putin.
