Pence Insists Trump Wasn’t Questioning ‘So-Called’ Judge’s Legitimacy

Vice-President Mike Pence showed up on Face the Nation this Sunday, and host John Dickerson pressed him on head-of-state Donald Trump questioning a federal judge’s legitimacy.

“I don’t think he was questioning the legitimacy of the judge,” he said, later adding to an apparently skeptical Dickerson, “This was more about the president simply expressing a frustration with a judge who is involving himself in the clear prerogatives of the president of the United States.”

On Friday, U.S. District Judge James Robart temporarily blocked the Executive Order that bans citizens from seven Muslim-majority nations. This did not please the president.

The EO has faced a barrage of legal challenges since it was issued Jan. 27. Trump ran on a hardline immigration platform, and the then-candidate called for an actual ban of Muslims entering the county. Him and multiple spokespeople have insisted this new policy isn’t based on religion, however.

The President’s tweet on Robart echoes his racially charged feud with Mexican-American Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who president over a lawsuit over the eponymous Trump University.
