‘You Know I Love You’: Accused Killer Mouthed Words to Victim’s Mother, Says Report

Here’s a strange detail from Friday. 38-year-old Kwauhuru Govan faces a second-degree murder charge for 2005 slaying. He attended his arraignment in Brooklyn Supreme Court, and he did more than plead not guilty. The accused killer twice mouthed to the victim’s mother “You know I love you,” according to NBC New York.

Prosecutors say Govan dismembered Rashawn Brazell, dumping body parts in a subway tunnel. The victim’s mother Desire Brazell attended the arraignment. Though she reacted to the defendant’s apparent comment—the report says she grabbed a table and shook her head the second time he mouthed the words—she declined comment to reporters.

Video of that exchange isn’t available because the judge didn’t allow cameras in court. Actually, his previous hearing got rowdy. Wednesday, Govan claimed he was being framed, speaking out, and attempting to stand as court officials tried to sit him back down.

Friday’s hearing went a lot more calmly, though his request for bail was denied. He is also accused of the 2004 killing of 17-year-old Sharabia Thomas. She was found naked inside two laundry bags in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Govan has also denied involvement in that case.
