A Georgia woman is facing an assault charge after she allegedly joined a fight between high school students, helping her daughter and another student gang up on the victim, police say. The incident, which took place at Redan High School in DeKalb County went viral after video of the fight spread on social media.

“Why would you get in a kid’s business?” the victim, a 16-year-old sophomore, said.

She told WSB-TV that three people jumped her in the hallway, “punching me, hitting me in the back of the head with a cellphone, pulling my hair,” resulting in a concussion and cuts on her head. She said she was bullied throughout the school year.

“I try to defend myself, but I can’t really handle three people.”

School police charged the parent who got involved with battery. The victim’s mother said the school needs to face consequences too. “These schools need to be held accountable, just as well as the mother,” she said. She wants to remove her daughter from the school district after the school year ends.

Officials from the school district said in a statement, “The district will never tolerate altercations of any type on its campuses.”
